Whenever there is stress on our systems people with preexisting challenges are hit the hardest. The challenges can be so dysregulating. The fears and memories come knocking on the door of hard-fought equanimity to say, “Hey. How solid do you really think you are?”
Please pause and be aware that people are struggling. Find kindness and compassion. Addicts are not able to get to meetings. Homeless food kitchens are closed. People with fears of abandonment, anxiety or depression do not do well with isolation. And those who employ superhero levels of worry…well they have been outstripped of the powers.
Under-reacting and over-reacting… they are just the well-worn armor that has protected us in the past. Neither is good or bad—simply a protector. Be aware that your default way of being might trigger others. If they are trying to change you ,t is likely out of fear for you.
At the end of the day, we need to know that Kindness is contagious. Love wins. And at minimum give people a break… for they are struggling just like you.
